Overview

A classic five-day Cambodia journey that begins in the riverside capital of Phnom Penh and ends with sunrise over Angkor Wat. You will tour the Royal Palace and the Silver Pagoda, drift down the Mekong on a sunset cruise, and ride into the floating village of Kampong Phluk on the Tonle Sap. Three days in Siem Reap give you proper time at the temple cities — Angkor Thom’s smiling face-towers at the Bayon, the jungle-tangled corridors of Ta Prohm, the pink-sandstone carvings at Banteay Srei, and the Grand Circuit temples that most rushed itineraries skip. Every transfer is in a private air-conditioned vehicle, every temple day is led by an English-speaking licensed guide, and breakfast is included throughout.

Continue to the National Museum, designed in Khmer style in 1917 by French architect Georges Groslier, with its warm red-terracotta walls and curved naga-topped roof. In the evening, enjoy a relaxed 1-hour Mekong River cruise (shared catamaran-style boat) to watch the sun set over the Phnom Penh skyline.

Visit Kampong Kdei Bridge (Spean Praptos), built during the Khmer period at the request of King Jayavarman VII. The highlight of the day is a boat ride on Tonle Sap Lake at Kampong Phluk village — South-East Asia’s largest permanent freshwater lake, where entire communities live in floating houses, complete with floating schools and police stations. Arrival in Siem Reap in the late afternoon and check-in.

Angkor Thom — Ta Prohm — Angkor Wat

A full day in the temple capital. Continue to the Phimeanakas, the Royal Enclosure, the Elephants Terrace and the Terrace of the Leper King. Then visit Ta Prohm, the temple left half-swallowed by the jungle and one of the most photographed sites in Cambodia. After a lunch break (own arrangement), visit Angkor Wat itself — 81 hectares of 12th-century Khmer architecture and the largest religious monument on earth. Finish with a sunset view from the top of Bakheng Hill.
